RCSD capture liquor bandit

Update 10/03/2016: Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Jonathan Thompson (DOB: September 24, 1981) charged with three counts of burglary 2nd, two counts of grand larceny, and one count of petty larceny. The Sheriff stated that Thompson turned himself in to Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigators on Thursday, September 29, 2016.

The Sheriff stated that Thompson’s accomplice, Cedric Reddick (DOB: 01/23/1993) was arrested on Thursday, September 22, 2016 and was charged with five counts of burglary 2nd, three counts of grand larceny, and petit larceny.  The Sheriff stated that investigators arrested Reddick at 1104 Bryton Trace, 29210. The stated that the Richland County Sheriff’s Department DNA Lab was able to identify Reddick through trace evidence collected at the scene of a burglary located on the 7800 block of Garners Ferry Road, 29209 on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. In addition, Investigators recovered stolen liquor at the residence.    

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Reddick and an accomplice are responsible for committing multiple crimes in Richland County, Lexington County, and the City of Columbia; the Sheriff added that additional jurisdictions could be added to the list:

·       Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 7824 Garners Ferry Road (Thomason Wine and Liquor) – several bottles of Hennessy and Ciroc were stolen approximate value $3,370.00.

·       Monday, August 25, 2016 at 4360 Augusta Road, 29073 (Clyde’s Spirits and Fine Wines) – three duffle bags of liquor was stolen from the business with an estimated value of $1,800.00.

·       Monday, August 25, 2016 at 4934 Highway 321, 29053 (T and D Liquors) – the suspects stole Hennessy, Ciroc, Jose Cuervo Tequila with an estimated value of $2,433.00

·       Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 710 University Village Drive (Blythewood Spirits) – several bottles of Hennessy, Ciroc, Patron, Don Julio, Chivas  Regal, and Crown Royal were stolen approximate value $3, 500.

·       Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 2932 Alpine Road, 29223 (Simba Express) – three and a half cases of Hennessy were stolen with an estimated value of $1,000.00

·       Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 1624 Broad River Road, 29210 ((The Swag Shop), the suspects ransacked the business – no listing of items taken.

·       Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 1301 Bush River Road, 29210 – several bottles of Hennessy was stolen from the business with an estimated value of $1,136.00.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that this investigation continues and that additional charges for Thompson and Reddick could be forthcoming from surrounding jurisdictions; Thompson is currently being held in the Newberry County Jail.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that this investigation continues and the additional arrests are forthcoming. The Sheriff is asking for assistance in identifying the second suspect involved.
