Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is proud to announce that six new chaplains have been sworn into the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff delivered the oath of office on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters located at 5623 Two Notch Road, 29223; family, friends, and colleagues witnessed the joyous occasion.
The Sheriff’s Chaplaincy Program is a volunteer police chaplaincy program that aids to deputies in crisis situations and allows deputies to feel a sense of comfort while coping with different situations they may face; twenty one chaplains serve in the program. The chaplains serve the department on a rotational on call status and help reduce post-traumatic stress that follows critical incidents.
Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the 1st two Muslim chaplains were sworn in today, “Today we had Muslim, seventh day Adventist, Catholic, and Methodist; we have all religions covered now”, the Sheriff added. The twenty one chaplains bring diversity to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and are an excellent representation of the department and the community. The Sheriff stated that chaplains provide an invaluable service to the Department, the deputies, and their families.
The Sheriff is thankful to have to the newest chaplains join the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Chaplaincy Program and is grateful knowing that all the chaplains who serve can extend their hearts and helpful ways to assist the many deputies and employees of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department!
