16 Year Old Richland County Student Arrested for Threatening Principal and Attacking School Resource Officer

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is announcing the arrest of a 16 year old female student at Blythewood Academy after the student physically advanced on the school principal, and then physically attacked a school resource officer called in to help de-escalate the situation.  

The incident happened at approximately 10:00am on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 when the principal and faculty were meeting with the student. During the meeting the student became agitated and then physically threatened the school’s principal, in effect advancing upon the principal. Unable to contain the situation, the school’s resource officer was called into the meeting, while responding to the situation the 16 year old began physically assaulting the school‘s SRO who deployed his taser in an effort to gain control of the situation.

The student has been cleared medically by Richland County EMS and is being charged with making a threat against a public official, the school principal in this case, also assault, and battery on the deputy, and resisting arrest.

The 16 year old juvenile has been transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
