Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Chriss Geiger (DOB: 08/30/1970) for grand larceny, possession of marijuana, and unlawful carry of a weapon. The Sheriff stated that the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s Fugitive Task Force and United States Marshal Service arrested Geiger on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Laurel and Assembly Streets after a short foot chase.
Sheriff Leon Lott stated that on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 100 the block of Arbor Springs Drive (Irmo), 29063, Geiger stole the victim’s vehicle out of his driveway. The Sheriff stated that Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputies recovered the vehicle several hours later at the 1200 block of Brevard Street, 29210. The Sheriff stated that deputies saw Geiger close to the vehicle who then fled on foot after seeing the deputies, leaving the vehicle behind.
Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s Crime Scene Unit was able to identify Geiger by DNA left at the scene. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department Crime Lab is recognized as one of best in the country and is internationally accredited; the RCSD Crime Lab has received the highest accreditation for investigating all crimes, RCSD deputies are trained on collecting latent prints at crime scenes, which assist in RCSD having a high success rate on solving crimes. The Sheriff stated that having the ability to gather evidence left at a scene, process it, and possibly identify suspects involved quickly is crucial for the victim’s to start their healing process.
Sheriff Leon Lott stated that additional charges could be forthcoming for Geiger; he has been transported to Alvin S Glenn Detention Center.
