Missing Woman Found Dead Identified – Case Remains Open  update 11/23/2016: Arrest Made in Missing Woman Found Dead 

Update 11/23/2016:  Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Lloyd Gareth Shand (DOB: 12/07/1981) charged with murder.   

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Shand was arrested at 1033 Aderley Oak Drive, (Irmo) 29063 on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 by Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigators. 

The Sheriff stated that investigators following up on significant leads were able to determine that Shand, who was among the last to see Candice was responsible for committing the murder. The Sheriff added that Shand, an acquaintance of Candice physically assaulted the victim resulting in her death. 

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that at around 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016, deputies responded to the 200 block of Twin Gate Road (Irmo) 29063 in reference to human remains found in the area. The Sheriff stated that Candice was discovered by a citizen who was working to clear off some land on Twin Gate Road.   

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the remains through dental records as 51 year-old Candice Pierce. The Sheriff stated that Candice was reported missing by a friend to the Irmo Police Department on September 20, 2016. Chief Joe Nates, Irmo Police stated that it was unusual for Candice to miss scheduled medical appointments. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Irmo Police Department were working together to determine what may have happened to Candice.      

The Sheriff stated Shand has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

The Sheriff stated that Candice was discovered by a citizen and his son were working to clear off some land on Twin Gate Road.   

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the remains through dental records as 51 year-old Candice Pierce. The Coroner stated that as it stands right now, Candice died under suspicious circumstances.  

The Sheriff stated that Candice was reported missing by a friend to the Irmo Police Department on September 20, 2016. Chief Joe Nates, Irmo Police stated that it was unusual for Candice to miss scheduled medical appointments. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Irmo Police Department are working together to determine what may have happened to Candice.
