Daycare Worker Arrested for Assault on Toddler

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Thomasine Jackson (DOB: 09/06/1960) charged with assault & battery and commission of certain offenses within 100 yards of a daycare facility; Jackson slapped a 3 –year-old female toddler in the face area numerous times. Jackson was arrested by Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigators on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Richland County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters.

Deputies were notified on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 about an assault on a toddler by the victim’s parents after the toddler was picked up from Play Pals Kindergarten and Daycare located at 1246 Dothan Road. Deputies observed physical manifestation to both sides of the toddlers face and underneath the toddlers chin. RCSD investigators discovered that Jackson, a daycare employee, assaulted the toddler after the child refused to put away toys. The toddler was treated at a local hospital for redness and bruising. 

Sheriff Leon Lott states that the abuse of any child will not be tolerated, and that RCSD will investigate these cases as a priority and hold those responsible accountable through the criminal justice system. The Sheriff states that there is no excuse for abusing a child.
