Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces deputies to support "Buckle Up" Campaign 

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces Deputies will support the South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s “Buckle up South Carolina” campaign for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Sheriff Lott announced today that the Richland County Sheriff’s Department is partnering with other law enforcement agencies across South Carolina the to enforce the “Buckle Up South Carolina” message to all motorist this Memorial Holiday weekend.  

  

Richland County Sheriff Department's traffic safety unit, South Carolina Highway Patrol along with the City of Columbia Police Department, and Elgin Police Department will be working together to ensure that motorists have safe travels during this busy weekend. Sheriff Lott stated that law enforcement officers will be conducting joint enforcement checkpoints at several locations in Richland County beginning Friday, May 23, 2008 through Monday evening. Officers will be checking for seatbelt violations as well as motorists driving under the influence.

  

Sheriff Lott added that motorists traveling without their seatbelts is one of the leading causes of death when an accident occurs---therefore deputies are hoping these checkpoints will increase citizens' awareness of the need for defensive driving, seatbelt use, and not driving under the influence.

  • Bookman Road near the Kershaw County Line Friday May 23rd

  • Fulmer Road near US 21 Wilson Boulevard Friday May 23rd

  • Two Notch Road near the Kershaw County Line Saturday May24th

  • Screaming Eagle Road @ Highway Church Road Saturday May 24th

  • Rauch Metz Road near the Peak interchange Monday May 26th
