RCSD Arrests father for homicide by child abuse

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of 26-year-old Karlton Brabham Sr., on charges of homicide by child abuse.

Brabham (DOB: 01/27/1992) and another family member drove an unresponsive 6-year-old boy to MedCare at 10136 Two Notch Road on Feb. 5, 2018. The boy, Brabham’s son, was rushed to Palmetto Health Richland where he was declared dead, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts. Investigators from Watts’ office alerted the Richland County Sheriff’s Department of the child’s death.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office was instrumental in helping sheriff’s department investigators determine that the cause of death of the boy was non-accidental. The incident occurred at 825 Derby Downs Court, Elgin, S.C. The child suffered a traumatic brain injury after being assaulted by Brabham.

Brabham was arrested on March 5, 2018, by the RCSD Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service. He was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
