Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott reiterated today the importance of every citizen getting involved in our communities and how a crime watch and community events, like National Night Out, can prevent crime. Sheriff Leon Lott announced the list of upcoming National Night Out Events for August 5, 2008 and is encouraging every citizen to be a part of this national crime prevention initiative. National Night Out is an annual event that encourages citizens to get out and take a stand against crime. Sheriff Lott would like National Night Out to be a reminder to all citizens to get involved in or start a crime watch in their residential or business community. If we work together we can prevent crime from affecting our families. Sheriff Lott added that anyone wishing to start a crime watch, receive a free security survey, receive free crime prevention training or would like to talk with a deputy from the Sheriff's Department are asked to call 803-576-3118. Citizens can go to www.rcsd.net to receive free crime prevention tips and information. Sheriff Lott will be visiting several communities on August 5, 2008 starting with the Gable Oaks Apartment at 5:00 PM, along with the Department’s helicopter and Kids Print Program. Sheriff Lott will go, at 6:30 PM, to the Briarwood Community Event at Windsor Elementary School where a bullet proof vest will be presented to a Sheriff’s Deputy by the community. Sheriff Lott will then visit the Springwood Lakes Community, the Denny Terrace Community, the Park Apartments, Woods Edge Apartments, Waterford Community and the Village at Hilton, respectively. Sheriff Lott and Community Action Team Deputies will present a proclamation from County Council to the over sixty communities having National Night Out events. Community events taki ng place will range from community walks to cookouts to community festivals.
