Criminal sexual assault leads to termination and arrest

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today the arrest of Rodney Muller (DOB 3-3-66 of 801 Chadford Road, Irmo) for criminal sexual conduct. Muller, a deputy with the Sheriff’s Department since December 2007 assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division, was terminated today and arrested after the victim reported that Muller forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her.

Sheriff Lott stated that the incident was reported to the Sheriff’s Department on July 24, 2008 and investigators determined that Muller, who was off duty at the time of the incident, grabbed the victim, removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her. The victim went to Muller’s home because Muller’s wife runs a daycare out of the home and the victim went there to pickup her child – when the victim arrived there was no one there except Rodney Muller because the children had been taken to another location. The victim immediately went to the hospital who subsequently reported it to the Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Lott stated that Muller was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center late this afternoon where he awaits a bond hearing. Citizens need to know that all of their concerns will be taken serious and investigated vigorously. No matter who you are, if you break the law, you will be arrested and prosecuted.
