Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott released today that on July 11, 2008 William Joseph Newcomb (D.O.B. 9/29/66) enlisted the aid of his fourteen daughter and her sixteen year old boyfriend to steal a vehicle and a wallet from Gold's Gym at 9940 Two Notch Road.All three suspects participated in the theft of a victim's Chevy Tahoe by removing the vehicles keys from the key rack in the Gold's Gym lobby while the victim exercised inside. The trio stole another victim's wallet from the women's locker room and stole several credit cards from both victims - the suspects made numerous purchases at The Village of Sandhills with the stolen credit cards. I nvestigators were provided a lead from a tipster who stated that the fourteen-year-old female suspect was in the women's locker room during the time of the theft. Newcomb coerced the two kids by sending them into the establishment with the purposes of stealing the victim's items. Newcomb opened an account at the Gym for the kids in order to gain access to the area.Sheriff Lott states during interviews the sixteen year old implicated himself as being a willing participant in the crimes committed and also admits to committing similar offenses at the Forest Acres Gold's Gym earlier in March. Sheriff Lott added that the sixteen year old turned himself in on Monday July 14, 2008 to the Richland County Sheriffs Department.
