** Updated 07/10/2008 Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today a tip from the community to crimestoppers lead to the identification and arrest of two people in connection with the theft of a victim's purse and use of the credit cards in area businesses.Maude Marita Denise Thompson D.O.B.( 11/17/58) was arrested this morning after a crimestoppers tip identified her as one of the suspects in the video surveillance photographs that were released to the community on 7/8/08. Thompson is charged with three counts of Financial Transaction Card Fraud - Thompson used the stolen credit cards to make purchases at local businesses. After being interviewed Thompson implicated herself in another case (6/19/08) that investigators were working on involving the same type of crime which was stealing a purse and using the stolen credit cards. The investigation revealed the male suspect in the video as Nathaniel Moyd (warrants for Financial Transaction Card Fraud are being obtained for him at this time). Sheriff Lott commends the community for once again assisting in identifying those responsible for these crimes. Sheriff Lott is asking the community's assistance with identifying the suspects in the surveillance photos. Sheriff Leon Lott states on April 22, 2008 at 9221 Farrow Road unknown suspect(s) stole the victims wallet while she was at work. The victim is a receptionist at this location and moves frequently from her desk and believes the suspects waited for an opportunity to steal her purse from underneath her desk. The victim filed an incident report and contacted her credit card company to notify them to cancel use of her credit card. The suspects in the video were seen using the victim's credit card at two businesses in the Two Notch Road area immediately after the victim discovered it was stolen.
