Illegal Gambling Machine Arrest

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the seizure of gambling machines and the arrest of the homeowner.

Sheriff Lott stated he received information directly from the Woodfield Park community that an illegal gambling service was in operation at 1711 DuPont Drive Columbia SC 29223. Sheriff Lott stated at approximately 5:00 P.M. he directed the Community Action Team and the Gang Unit to follow up on the complaint at the location. The suspect and owner of the house Freddie W. Pryor (DOB 8-8-67) answered the door and invited officers in.

As the deputies spoke with Pryor they noticed the gambling machines in plain view.  There were two female customers playing the machines and admitted to winning money on occasion--the two were issued courtesy summons and released. Five illegal gambling machines were seized along with approximately six hundred dollars in cash from the location. Pryor was arrested and charged with Operating an Illegal Gaming House and transported to the Alvin S. Glen Detention Center.

Sheriff Leon Lott applauds the Woodfield Park community in taking a stand against this illegal activity in their neighborhood and encourages anyone needing to report a crime  to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC or www.sccrimestoppers.com  and receive a cash reward for their tip that leads to an arrest.
