Crime Scene Investigators lead to Identification of Armed Robbery Suspect wanted in Multiple Jurisdictions 

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announces the arrest of Chico Jermaine Bell (DOB: 05/10/1973) charged with three counts of strong armed robbery. The Sheriff added that Bell may be charged with additional crimes committed in the City of Columbia, Forest Acres, and West Columbia.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Bell was arrested on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 1221 Gregg Street, 29210 by Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigators after the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigators identified Bell through latent prints left at one of the crime scenes.  

The Sheriff stated that Bell is responsible for committing the following crimes in Richland County:

·        Tuesday, January 3, 2017 – 7925 Wilson Boulevard (Dollar General) 29203, Bell reached in to the cash register and stole cash then fled the area. The RCSD Crime Lab processed the scene and recovered latent prints belonging to Bell at the scene.

·        Monday, December 12, 2016 – 7925 Wilson Boulevard (Dollar General), 29203 Bell pretended to purchase an item from the business and when the victim (employee) opened the register he (Bell) stole the cash and fled the area.

·        Tuesday, December 13, 2016 – 3004 Broad River Road (Circle K), 29210 Bell pretended to purchase an item from the business and as the victim (employee) opened the register Bell stole the cash and fled the area. 

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that Bell is suspected in a string of strong armed robberies in Richland County, and throughout the cities of Columbia, Forest Acres, and West Columbia. The Sheriff stated that additional charges could be forthcoming; Bell has been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
