Joe Strong Bocce Tournament to benefit Special Olympics South Carolina

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott would like to invite all citizens to be a part of an incredible day of fun and fellowship supporting Special Olympic Athletes South Carolina. The Sheriff stated that the Bocce Tournament has been named in honor of Captain Joseph Pellicci, who passed away at the young age of 53 after a long battle with cancer. Joe served the Richland County Sheriff’s Department honorably for 17 years. The Sheriff added that Joe loved serving the children of Special Olympics South Carolina, it was his calling, and he loved every one of those kids as if they were his own.

On Sunday, March 19, 2017, the 8th Annual Midlands Joe Strong Bocce Bash will take place at Thirsty Fellows, 621 Gadsden Street (USC Field at the corners of Greene and Gadsden Street). Registration cost is $200 for a 4 person team. Registration on site begins at 12:00PM with the tournament starting at 1:00PM. Each participating team will receive free lunch and beverages.

Sheriff Leon Lott would like to encourage citizens to support Special Olympics South Carolina, and to become a part of this family-friendly day full of fun and competition. BOCCE is a sport that can be played by everyone, regardless of age. One-hundred-percent of the funds collected from this event will go directly to over 22,000 plus Special Olympic Athletes in the form of training, equipment, uniforms.

You can build your team with your family, friends, and your company or recruit a few pros who can really give you an edge!

Teams are encouraged, but certainly not required to wear cool matching shirts! Once you register, you’ll receive a set of rules by email. You can also log onto the internet for information on bocce, how it’s played, and the history of this fun game.
