Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of Jason Gleaton (DOB: 09/25/1990) charged with armed robbery, two counts of kidnapping, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Gleaton was arrested by Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigators on Sunday, December 3, 2017.
Just before 10:00 AM on December 3, 2017, RCSD deputies responded to a robbery at 7925 Wilson Boulevard (Dollar General). Deputies discovered that two employees (victims) were approached at gun point by an unknown male, later identified as Jason Gleaton, demanding money from the store’s safe and register. The victims’ opened the safe and register where Gleaton stole an unknown amount of money and fled from the business.
The Sheriff stated that witnesses provided investigators with a description of Gleaton’s vehicle where investigators were able to quickly follow up on significant leads. At approximately 2:00 PM, the vehicle was located at a residence on the 300 block of Carriage Oaks Drive where investigators were able to identify Gleaton and immediately take him into custody. Items from the robbery were located in Gleaton’s possession, including a large amount of the stolen money.
Additional charges may be forthcoming for Gleaton as investigators are currently looking into similar robberies that have occurred in the area. Gleaton has been transported to the Alvin S Glenn Detention Center.
