RCSD Reminds Citizens to Keep Packages Safe

As many are choosing the option to online shop for gift giving during this holiday season, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott reminds citizens to take precautions when having your holiday packages delivered. The Sheriff states that unsecured packages left on doorsteps is an easy way for thieves to steal your holiday gifts, and encourages citizens to consider alternative delivery options if and when needed:

·         Add the option of having your packages signed for so that they are not left alone on your doorstep

·         If you are not home during delivery hours, have a neighbor retrieve your packages for you

·         Check with your place of employment and have items delivered to your workplace, if allowed

·         Arrange to pick up your packages from a local carrier location

The Sheriff states to be sure to check your local carrier services for tracking and delivery times. The convenience of online shopping has its perks, however, the Sheriff states to be mindful in keeping your packages safe when finalizing your delivery options.
