Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today the investigation into a series of armed robberies that have occurred between July 7, 2008 and August 2, 2008 in Northeast Richland County. Sheriff Lott stated that the suspect(s), armed with pistols, are approaching citizens (six over the last month) and demanding money. Although no shots were fired during the robberies, all six of the incidents are believed to involve the same suspects. The suspects are stealing everything from cash to purses to eyeglasses to victim’s food. The incidents occurred near homes and inside and behind businesses -- all in the Hardscrabble Road/Clemson Road area. Timeline and description of incidents: July 07, 2008- Two robberies: The first was a robbery of a pizza delivery driver at 11 Glenn Knoll at 1:33 PM as he was delivering a pizza where four unknown black males assaulted the victim and took his wallet. The second is an attempted robbery at 810 Ridge Trail where the victim was approached at the front door at approximately 10:30 PM by two unknown black males who were armed. The victim was able to get inside and close his door without anything being stolen or injury. July 14, 2008- Attempted robbery at 412 Trowbridge Road at 1:55 AM as victim was walking to the door and was approached by two unknown black males who were armed and demanded money. After not getting any money the subjects assaulted the victim before departing. July 30, 2008- Three robberies occurred: The first was a robbery of an individual behind the Subway (4611 Hardscrabble) at 9:00 PM; the second was a robbery of an individual at 208 Sugar Mill Road at 9:30 PM where the victim was approached on the front stairs of the home and her purse was stolen and the last was a commercial robbery of the Subway (4611 Hardscrabble Road) at 10:00 PM where the suspects stole money. August 02, 2008- The victim was exiting his vehicle at 500 Holly Ridge Lane at approximately 1:00 AM and was approached by three unknown armed black males. He was ordered to the ground and they took his wallet. Note that there is a common vehicle description in at least two of the robberies: a white or beige colored 4-door vehicle (one of the victims describes it as having a spoiler on the back).
