Wanted for assault and battery with intent to kill related to early morning shooting

** Update 08/12/2008:  Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that Michael Goins turned himself in to the City of Columbia Police Department this morning  around 2:00 A.M. (see original release below) Goins declined to answer any questions or cooperate with the investigation. Sheriff Lott thanked the news media for their assistance by prominently featuring Goins in the news.


Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today the investigation into an early morning shooting at 1212 Meetze Road.

Sheriff Lott stated that at approximately 1:30 AM Tarquin English and Denysha Tuff were involved in a domestic dispute which involved a verbal and physical altercation – Tuff called several people to come to the apartment with the express intent of beating up English. Michael Goins (DOB 11-01-85), Dwayne Simpson (DOB12-20-72) and Frankie Johnson (9-3-83) responded with a handgun with the intent to assault and shoot English. Sheriff Lott stated that when the trio arrived Goins opened fire inside the residence hitting Simpson and English – the trio fled dropping Simpson off at the Lexington Medical Center (Simpson has been released and is under arrest at this time) and English was transported to Palmetto Health Richland in critical condition by ambulance.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that investigators are currently working to locate Goins and Johnson – anyone with information their location is asked to call crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.

Additional information:

  • Simpson, Goins and Johnson will face charges of assault and battery with intent to kill
  •  English (21 years old) and Tuff (21 years old) live together in apartment E15
  • The weapon used in the assault has been recovered
