**Update: 08/04/2008  Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today that Leroy White turned himself in to the Sheriff’s Department this afternoon. Sheriff Lott stated that the investigation continues as to any charges that will be filed against White and what caused his early departure from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced this afternoon that Leroy White (DOB 3-30-59, black male, 6’ 180lbs, last known address 2621 Orangeburg Street, Columbia 29203) was released from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center today, mistakenly.

White was released today at 5:00 PM and that the circumstances behind White’s release are under investigation. At this time White is being sought by deputies because he was incarcerated for fraudulent checks, providing false information to the police and possession of alcohol in a public place and should not be out of jail. Although the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center is separate from the Sheriff’s Department, the Sheriff is responsible for investigating if criminal charges will be brought against White for his departure from the jail today.

Anyone with information on White’s location is asked to call crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or go to www.sccrimestoppers.com.   A cash reward for information leading to White’s arrest is being offered by crimestoppers.
